Toshiba's Business Communications Division (BCD) are working to improve internal practices to reduce impact on the enviroment. This includes the following:
- TIU operates a remote working policy, allowing staff to work from home and reduce unnecessary travel.
- TIU also operates a flexible working policy, reducing the amount of traffic in office locations.
- Recycling bins are provided through TIU to encourage staff to recycle all appropriate materials including plastics, paper, cards, drinking cups, batteries, etc.
- TIU undertakes electronic communication wherever possible to ensure reduction in paper usage.
- Strict processes for product stock control ensure that products are shipped by sea rather than flown into the UK.
- Use of online meetings to reduce the travel of Toshiba staff.
- All manufacturing equipment is energy-saving and highly-efficient, to ensure minimum amount of energy is used in the production process.
- 'Circulate box' transportation between BCD manufacturing and component vendors to ensure minimal natural resources are used.
- Use of Just in Time (JIT) delivery of components to reduce the packing materials of component stock.
- Toshiba undertakes planting of trees and grass around the factory to absorb and reduce CO2 emissions.
- Toshiba uses non-cleansing type of Printed Circuit Board (PCB) flux, ensuring that no toxic cleansers are used.
- Toshiba also ensures use of only machines and tools that require no toxic substances (RoSH compliant).
- BCD have a fully documented procedure to conform to Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) requirements.
- Quick adoption of all RoSH requirements, removing any potentially hazardous materials in advance of legislative deadlines where possible.
